Polish fireworks show will go racing
The waters of Brno Lake are not new for SUREX – the Polish team won an award for the best music and the best fireworks design for the obligatory music in 2013 and then another award for the best design for the obligatory music in 2018. On Saturday, June 21, they are coming back to Brno, ready to show the audience their Pyro race, which will tell a story about a boy whose dream is to become a racing driver.
The whole show was inspired by the obligatory song The Race by Yello. “For the obligatory music we wanted to pick a song that would celebrate the return of the MotoGP series to Brno,” explains Ondřej Morávek from SNIP & CO, the company which is the producer of the festival.
Designer Jaroslaw Suzdalewicz reveals how they created their new show and how the team feels about returning to Brno.
Your show revolves around a young boy’s dream to become a racing driver. How did you come up with this topic? Do you follow any racing series?
The idea was born from the emotions we felt while listening to the obligatory music "THE RACE" by Yello and creating the rest of the background music. We like motor sports and many careers start with karting and end with Formula 1. This also inspired us to create a story of a young athlete who can fulfill his dreams without taking shortcuts. Maybe we will become an inspiration to someone.
In your show, you use covers in unusual, epic arrangements by Deutsch 2WEI. You’ve worked with their music in your past shows. What do you like the most about their covers?
2WEI has an incredible ability to transform well-known melodies into epic music. Their arrangements carry a lot of emotions – exactly what we need to tell stories through fireworks and be able to paint them in the sky in Brno. Working with such a musical background gives us creative freedom. Their passion combines with ours to stop thinking and analyzing at some point and let ourselves be carried away by emotions.
You have a very good history in Brno – in 2013, you won the prize for best music and for best obligatory song design. How are you feeling about returning to Brno Lake?
Brno holds a special place in our hearts. We love this scenery where water is around fireworks and thanks to the surrounding nature our show gains a different dimension. Regarding atmosphere: people working on this event are also our friends and we return here to visit them to tell all of you the story of „PYRO RACE”. We wish everyone to fulfill their dreams too.
The show will be preceded by the second drone show of the year: a show called Centuries of Discoveries which has been created in cooperation with AI. “Artificial intelligence helped with the design of some final patterns and created the voiceover. We found out AI is useful for working with text and can help us with visuals,” commented David Zaorálek from Spectrum Production.
