Five fireworks displays and a drone show with 300 drones will light up the sky over Brno

Brno will light up with the 28th annual Ignis Brunensis international fireworks competition. A total of five fireworks displays will be complemented by two drone shows with 300 illuminated drones.

On Friday, 13 June, a fireworks prelude above Špilberk Castle will commemorate the 380th anniversary of the defence of Brno against Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War. The fireworks display, inspired by Brno's history, was prepared by the Czech team Theatrum Pyroboli.

From Saturday, 14 June, the festival will move to the traditional pontoon on the Brno Lake, and spectators will be able to watch the remaining four fireworks displays and two drone shows from the marina and the surrounding area. Fireworks teams from Great Britain, Italy and Poland will compete in the competition section. The festival will conclude with the Czech Ignis Brunensis Team, supported by pyrotechnicians from Austria and Germany. The Race by Yello will be played as the mandatory song for all dam fireworks displays.

Spectrum Production has prepared a surprise for spectators at its drone shows. "We have another premiere in store for us in Brno. We have managed to expand both Ignis Drone Shows from 250 to 300 illuminated drones,” said the mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková. The performance featuring three hundred drones will be a first in the Czech Republic. “The opening show will take us to South Moravia and Brno, while the second show will show us the technological discoveries of recent centuries," added the Governor of South Moravian Region, Jan Grolich.

On 14 June, the history of South Moravia will come to life in the first drone show called The City and Region of Stories, accompanied by a voiceover by Brno actor Zdeněk Junák. Swindon 105.5 in cooperation with Flash Barrandov SFX will present the British show entitled A Tear in My Beer, dedicated to the memory of British rock DJ Alan Burston.

On Wednesday, 18 June, Renzo Cargnelutti will return to Brno with the Italian team Luci di Notte. Cargnelutti has enchanted the jury in Brno in the past, taking home awards for the best music and for the best mandatory melody. The show, called Fire Water Burn, is inspired by the punk hit by the Bloodhound Gang and will feature an unusual soundtrack.

The second competition Saturday, 21 June, will be dedicated to the possibilities of modern technology. The drone show Centuries of Discoveries is narrated by artificial intelligence, and the creators have also incorporated AI into the design of the final figures. The Pyro Race by the Polish team Surex will delight lovers of powerful engines, or rather the queen of motorsport – in their show, the pyrotechnicians will tell the story of a boy who dreams of winning a Formula 1 race.

The final fireworks display on Wednesday, 25 June, is named Guardians of the Galaxy. The team of pyrotechnicians from the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria, known as the Ignis Brunensis Team, drew inspiration from comics and stories about superheroes and based their choice of music on the soundtrack of the Guardians of the Galaxy film trilogy.

“This year, viewers will again be able to rate all five fireworks displays and both drone shows by voting on the IGNIS BRUNENSIS OFFICIAL and Rádio Krokodýl Facebook pages. The fireworks display and drone show with the best ratings will win the audience awards,” added Ondřej Morávek from SNIP&CO.
