Ignis Brunensis will kick off with three shows

11/6/2025

The opening of the Ignis Brunensis international fireworks festival will be packed with excitement, with three shows awaiting spectators over the course of a single weekend. On Friday, June 13, the opening prelude entitled Tribute to the Brave Defenders will light up the sky above Špilberk Castle, and from Saturday, the fireworks competition will move to Brno Lake.

The opening fireworks display on Friday was prepared by the Czech team Theatrum Pyroboli to celebrate the 380th anniversary of the defense of Brno against Swedish troops. In their Tribute to the Brave Defenders, they incorporated one of Brno's most famous legends – the bells that ring noon an hour early. Designer Karel Singer plans to tell the thrilling story of the city's rescue: "We have prepared a colorful show in three acts with soundtrack by the group Two Steps From Hell. The sky will be filled with the yellow and blue colors of the attacking Swedes, silver flashes of cannon fire, and a final golden rain of memories."

On Saturday, June 14, the festival will move to Brno Lake. The Brno audience can first look forward to the premiere of the first drone show in the Czech Republic, consisting of 300 drones. The drones will take off above the water at 10 p.m. and will depict myths and legends from Brno and the South Moravian region. The voiceover for the show, entitled The City and Region of Stories, was narrated by actor and Brno patriot Zdeněk Junák.

"We are delighted to have been able to create this show for our hometown. The team and I always look forward to returning to Brno for Ignis Brunensis after a year. In some ways, it is more complicated to work with themes from our hometown – there are so many important points that it’s impossible to cover them all in one show," said David Zaorálek from Spectrum Production, describing the creation of the drone show.

The drones will be followed at 10:30 p.m. by a British fireworks tribute to Alan Burston called A Tear in My Beer. The project brings together community radio station Swindon 105.5, which will play songs from the heyday of rock music, Burston's son Adam Guy, who is behind the script and music editing, and Czech pyrotechnicians from Flash Barrandov SFX.

"Alan Burston was a legendary DJ who built an international fan base thanks to his unique understated style and the enormous variety of music he played, from rock 'n' roll to country or British punk rock. Alan became radicalised by rock 'n' roll in the 1950s, which led to his lifelong attitude as a rebel and outsider," revealed Burston's stepson Adam Guy.

Guy lived in the Czech Republic in the 1990s and has a positive relationship with the country, having learned Czech, among other things. Burston also visited him in Prague in the past. "Everyone called Alan Dr. Rock, and he prescribed his music to his listeners as the best medicine. We will be happy if the audience enjoys this medicine at Brno Lake on Saturday, June 14," added Guy.

A Tear In My Beer will also feature the obligatory music for 2025: the song The Race by Yello. Viewers can rate both fireworks displays as well as the drone show on the Facebook pages Ignis Brunensis Official or Rádio Krokodýl and win attractive tickets for RegioJet trains or buses throughout the Czech Republic and Europe.
