Fireworks and drone shows will shine above the Brno Lake

6/6/2024

Brno – Four pyromusicals directed by a Czech, German, international and Austrian team respectively and two drone shows created by Spectrum Production with a record number of drones will light up the sky above the Brno Lake.

The Ignis Brunensis programme at the lake will start on Saturday 8 June at 22:00 with a drone show called We are Europe. A squadron of 250 drones will take off accompanied by music and spoken word. The audience will see 50 more drones than last year, making it the biggest show of its kind in the Czech Republic.

The drone spectacle will commemorate the 20th anniversary of Czechia joining the European Union and the symbolic role of the Czech Republic as the heart of Europe. The show will also celebrate another anniversary – 200 years since the birth of Bedřich Smetana. The creators of the Spectrum Production drone show have therefore used Smetana's famous composition My Country in the musical accompaniment.

After the drone show, the first fireworks display of this year’s competition will take place on 8 June at 22.30. The pyromusical Conquest of Paradise, set to the music of composer Vangelis, will be a firework tribute to Ivan Martinek, firework designer from Theatrum Pyroboli. The fire show was prepared by a Czech team of Martinek's colleagues and friends.

On Wednesday 12 June at 22.30, the audience will see the second competition fireworks show, The Dance of the Angels with Two Steps on the Highway to Hell, directed by the German team Beisel Pyrotechnik. "Hell will try to enchant the angels and lure them to a hellish, vibrant party," said designer René Calmez about the theme of the show. The German fireworks display will also be a bit commemorative - the audience in Brno will have the opportunity to see some of the latest effects by the Sicilian manufacturer Antonino Vaccalluzzo.

On Saturday 15 June at 22:00, 250 drones will return above the lake. The second drone show called Water is Life will illustrate the journey of every drop of water on our planet. In addition to the musical background, viewers can once again look forward to spoken word, with popular actor and presenter Zdeněk Junák lending his voice to the show.

Saturday's programme will continue at 22.30 by the Rhapsody in Rainbow fireworks display prepared in cooperation between Czech, German and Spanish artists. The audience will be treated to a jazz musical where each song will have a maximum of two colours. One of the show's designers is Jaroslav Štolba from Flash Barrandov SFX.

The final fireworks display on Wednesday 19 June was prepared by the Austrian team Pyrovision. The show, called Friendship, will celebrate the friendship with Brno and Czech firework designers. "For more than 10 years we have enjoyed a great cooperation with Ignis Brunensis and other projects. If there was more friendship in the world, there would be less conflict," commented designer Christian Czech on the chosen theme. "And given my surname, it's actually a Czech-Czech friendship!" added the Austrian firework designer.

The obligatory tune for this year's event is a 90 seconds long part of Chariots of Fire, which all teams must include in their fireworks. The compulsory part is judged by a panel of experts who will decide the best firework display. Set design, music and overall artistic impression will also be judged, and the audience will have the opportunity to influence the winners of the audience prizes for both the fireworks and drone shows by voting.
